Laws, Ethics and Safety

Laws, Ethics, and Safety provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal, ethical, and safety considerations involved in practicing as a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R.TCMP) and Registered Acupuncturist (R.AC). The course covers the fundamental laws and regulations governing the profession, including the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), the TCM Act, College structures, By-Laws, Quality Assurance, and Standards of Practice. Additionally, students will learn about safety protocols, infection prevention and control measures, and clean needling techniques essential for safe clinical practice.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. Students are expected to attend all classes to fully grasp the legal, ethical, and safety considerations involved in their profession. Excused absences may be granted for valid reasons, but excessive absences may result in grade penalties.

  • Describe the fundamental structure and processes of human cells.

  • Locate key bones, muscles, and blood supply in the head, trunk, and limbs.
  • Describe the range of joint articulation and the role of major muscles in coordinating movement.
  • Identify abdominal and thoracic regions and their corresponding internal structures.
  • Recognize surface anatomical structures essential for locating acupuncture points.
  • Identify local anatomy in areas where acupuncture poses inherent injury risks.

  • Identify and explain the key provisions of federal and provincial/territorial legislation relevant to the practice of TCM and acupuncture.
