Herbology 1
Herbology 1 – HERB 4101 provides a comprehensive exploration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs, focusing on their properties, functions, and therapeutic applications. Students will gain a deep understanding of herb categorization, actions, indications, and potential toxicity. Emphasis is placed on applying herbal knowledge in treatment planning for various health conditions.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory. Students are expected to attend all classes. Absences must be justified and may impact the final grade.
Passing Mark
To successfully complete this course, students are required to achieve a minimum grade of 60%. All assignments and assessments must be completed and submitted on time. Attendance may also contribute to the final grade.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the properties and functions of TCM herbs used in treatment planning.
- Describe the concepts of si qi (four properties), wu wei (five flavors), sheng jiang fu chen (ascending, descending, floating, sinking), and gui jing (channel tropism).
- Identify the actions and indications of TCM herbs and their therapeutic significance.
- Recognize the potential toxicity of certain herbs and apply dosage ranges and cautions when necessary.
